Slow progress from Goblin Town

last night after the first week back at work I managed to sit and finally get into the plastics of Escape from Goblin Town.

They went together nice and easily except for a couple of the Dwarfs.  The models sit snugly together and for some of the arms it took a bit of a wiggle to find the right place, but when I did they did just slip into place.

So I have just the Goblins to go and they should be hopefully done later today while watching the football and then it’s just to read the rules and I can get a game in before starting with the painting.

Worthy General

As mentioned in a previous post I have a soft spot for Thomas Jackson and do wonder how the war would of ended if he hadn’t of died so early on.

I have managed to obtain a model that I think will fit nicely as Stonewall Jackson.

The model is by 1stcorps and I am looking forward to painting him to lead my Confederates.  As part of the set there was some other Confederate leaders but this is the one I wanted the most

My precious

Another of the projects following Christmas presents that I received is going to be the Hobbit Strategy Battle Game.

I never picked up the Lord of the Rings version previously so I am coming at this as a total beginner.  I have been tempted over the last few years but didn’t touch it due to the expectation Games Workshop was going to stop supporting the game.  The news of the new Specialist Games arm of Games Workshop made me finally take the plunge.

I have spent quite some time searching ebay for different models and books that are now out of production and now wish I had picked the game up earlier.

My main task has been trying to get the out of print sourcebooks and have all but the The Free People’s from the current set.  That is selling on eBay for up to £50.00 currently so it will have to wait or I will have to get lucky on the price.

As to plans with armies I haven’t quite decided yet and may make up some lists to see which I prefer but have ideas like Rohan, an army consisting of the Ringwraiths only, Harad – who couldn’t want a Mumak and the Shire.  The Shire is where I am having issues finding things on ebay.

First of all though is to build the models from the set and see how it plays out.

Get off my farm you pesky Yankees!

So I made a start with the Perry box and thought I would build up the scenary that comes in the box.

I found the building which is made by Renedra quite easy to put together.  The instructions are on the side of the box and make perfect sense when you look through them.  The only really issue I had was it took a couple of attempts to get the roof to sit right.

It looks good and I have something for the soon to be raised regiments to fight over.

The other part of the scenery was the snake fencing.

I just clipped it and played around with the make up of the fences to just show and see what could be created.

Now next for the battlefield will be the two armies from the box but the small pieces of scenary have got me thinking about what trees, other buildings and cover could be created.

Oh, I wish I was in the land of cotton

This is the first post of one of my new projects for 2016 following on from my Christmas presents.

The Perry’s first battle in a box for the American Civil War (ACW).  I have chosen this as the ACW has attracted me more in the last few years after reading Bernard Cornwall’s Starbuck series of books (my youngest son is called Nathaniel!).

I thought the box looked good from the fact for just under £100 you can get a good starting force for each side, with infantry, cavalry and artillery along with some great plastic looking scenary.  What else could you ask for but a full box?

image2

The box is very full, and on looking through the sprues they are packed and as expected from the Perry twins lovely looking figures.  The pictures of the different units as shown in the above picture giving you help wiht painting is great as is the flag sheet that is provided.

image3

As to whether I will use the flags which are provided I am usure of as yet as I may base my troops on different regimenrs.  If I had to pick a side I would pick the Confederate’s as having my soft spot and with that Thomas ‘Stonewall’ Jackson would be my leader of choice.  With this in mind I am looking to look into the Stonewall Brigae from the 1st Battle of Manassas.

As to the rules I am going to build up the units as described by the rules that come with the box.

image4

I think with this if I want to build on the original size for the units it would be easy to add to them for example Black Powder.

So that’s the introduction – next stop having a look through the box and bulding up some of the units and terrain.

A map

So recently I have been thinking more of my own home brew world for D&D or Pathfinder.  I have been trying to come up with some back stories for different places within the world but have strggled when trying to picture where every where was.

So a piece of inspiration came to me, a map!  Yes, a map!  Something so simple.

So below I would like to welcome you to the south west region of Anios.

One thing to bare in mind is it is a bit rough at the moment, but the basis of where places are is what I needed.

The mountains at the top will be the lands of the Dwarfs.  The islands in the west the lands of the Elves and the remianing below the river will be the lands of Men.

You can just make out the city in the corner of the river.  This will be called Clearwater and will be governed by members of each of the three major races as mentioned above.

I think this will be the first place I will be exanding on.

New bits for Space Marines

I have normally stayed away from GW finecast due to the amount of horror stories I have heard regarding it. This has changed due to two things.  Firstly I was floating around Forgeworlda website and ended up picking up some Ultramarine Rhino doors.

image

I was very happy with them, and as my other half said had fun ‘pimping up’ the Rhino.

This then lead me down a narrow street that had only one exit and that was to take the plunge, risk the horror stories and purchase my first finecast figure.  I had read in a few different places that the quality over time has actually got better so thought ok let’s give it a go.

The outcome, one Space a marine Captain master of the Marches purchased.

I must say looking over the model I am very happy with the quality and there seems to be no errors.  I now plan on maybe extending my finecast collection to the other specialist captains as well.

now to build him, but that’s for another day as today is a Star Wars day for me.

D&D what’s been happening.

So I have recently been trying to create my own world for D&D.  I have been trying to start quite high level with beginning to create the Gods for my worlds  I have been starting with a God of Water, Earth, Fire, Air.

Its been hard going so I have decided that I will stop trying to run almost before I can walk.

So instead I am going to try and use the DMG and the random charts to try and create an adventure or the basis of an adventure to begin with.

What have I been working on this week.

So this week, I have gone back to 40k and have started painting up a Tactical squad for the Ultramarines.

Below is part of them.

Tact Squad 1

So far I have only got the base blue complete then shaded with Nuln Oil.  I need to neaten the blue back up before highlighting and then moving on to the next part.

As per usual picking these back up I have made mad plans including a full 1st Company, transports for every squad, ect ect. Will see how long this will last and where I get to, but I am sure there will be some Space Marine models down on my Christmas list!

Also I have just managed to pick up a brand new copy of the first Ultramarine omnibus from Black Libary for £4.50 on ebay.  So thats my reading materieal to keep my interest up.

Plans

Ok, so I wanted to go throw th this last night but unfortunately when trying to update my laptop I ended up having to try and restore it leaving it over night as the % it increased was slow.  Alas though welcome the world of smart phones as I can update this via my smartphone.

Anyway enough of my real life problems

Ok with D&D I have multiple ideas of what I want to cover and as per normal I have plans of grandeur that if I even get half way through I will be happy.

So at the moment I have different strands of D&D that I want to go through:

  • Creating a charecter and learning the rules.  I have always been put off RPGs due to the size of the books involved.  Even creating your ow charecter can be complicated.  One of the section I want to give my journey through this.
  • Creating my own world and adventures.  The Dungeons Masters Guide is a wealth of knowledge and I want to use it to try and create my own world and eventually adventure.
  • Playing an adventure and finding people online to play with.  Yes I’m mainly a solo player so this is an added part of this how to find people online and trying to play online.
  • Although I believe I will eventually use an adventure (solo) to try and inspire myself to write a fantasy story.  That would be the pivotal moment of satisfaction through the blog.

So there we are plans a lot to work through but I am sure I will enjoy sharing this with yu and hopefully you will enjoy reading my updates.
