Worthy General

As mentioned in a previous post I have a soft spot for Thomas Jackson and do wonder how the war would of ended if he hadn’t of died so early on.

I have managed to obtain a model that I think will fit nicely as Stonewall Jackson.

The model is by 1stcorps and I am looking forward to painting him to lead my Confederates.  As part of the set there was some other Confederate leaders but this is the one I wanted the most

Get off my farm you pesky Yankees!

So I made a start with the Perry box and thought I would build up the scenary that comes in the box.

I found the building which is made by Renedra quite easy to put together.  The instructions are on the side of the box and make perfect sense when you look through them.  The only really issue I had was it took a couple of attempts to get the roof to sit right.

It looks good and I have something for the soon to be raised regiments to fight over.

The other part of the scenery was the snake fencing.

I just clipped it and played around with the make up of the fences to just show and see what could be created.

Now next for the battlefield will be the two armies from the box but the small pieces of scenary have got me thinking about what trees, other buildings and cover could be created.

Oh, I wish I was in the land of cotton

This is the first post of one of my new projects for 2016 following on from my Christmas presents.

The Perry’s first battle in a box for the American Civil War (ACW).  I have chosen this as the ACW has attracted me more in the last few years after reading Bernard Cornwall’s Starbuck series of books (my youngest son is called Nathaniel!).

I thought the box looked good from the fact for just under £100 you can get a good starting force for each side, with infantry, cavalry and artillery along with some great plastic looking scenary.  What else could you ask for but a full box?

The box is very full, and on looking through the sprues they are packed and as expected from the Perry twins lovely looking figures.  The pictures of the different units as shown in the above picture giving you help wiht painting is great as is the flag sheet that is provided.

As to whether I will use the flags which are provided I am usure of as yet as I may base my troops on different regimenrs.  If I had to pick a side I would pick the Confederate’s as having my soft spot and with that Thomas ‘Stonewall’ Jackson would be my leader of choice.  With this in mind I am looking to look into the Stonewall Brigae from the 1st Battle of Manassas.

As to the rules I am going to build up the units as described by the rules that come with the box.

I think with this if I want to build on the original size for the units it would be easy to add to them for example Black Powder.

So that’s the introduction – next stop having a look through the box and bulding up some of the units and terrain.
