Slow progress from Goblin Town

last night after the first week back at work I managed to sit and finally get into the plastics of Escape from Goblin Town.

They went together nice and easily except for a couple of the Dwarfs.  The models sit snugly together and for some of the arms it took a bit of a wiggle to find the right place, but when I did they did just slip into place.

So I have just the Goblins to go and they should be hopefully done later today while watching the football and then it’s just to read the rules and I can get a game in before starting with the painting.

My precious

Another of the projects following Christmas presents that I received is going to be the Hobbit Strategy Battle Game.

I never picked up the Lord of the Rings version previously so I am coming at this as a total beginner.  I have been tempted over the last few years but didn’t touch it due to the expectation Games Workshop was going to stop supporting the game.  The news of the new Specialist Games arm of Games Workshop made me finally take the plunge.

I have spent quite some time searching ebay for different models and books that are now out of production and now wish I had picked the game up earlier.

My main task has been trying to get the out of print sourcebooks and have all but the The Free People’s from the current set.  That is selling on eBay for up to £50.00 currently so it will have to wait or I will have to get lucky on the price.

As to plans with armies I haven’t quite decided yet and may make up some lists to see which I prefer but have ideas like Rohan, an army consisting of the Ringwraiths only, Harad – who couldn’t want a Mumak and the Shire.  The Shire is where I am having issues finding things on ebay.

First of all though is to build the models from the set and see how it plays out.

New bits for Space Marines

I have normally stayed away from GW finecast due to the amount of horror stories I have heard regarding it. This has changed due to two things.  Firstly I was floating around Forgeworlda website and ended up picking up some Ultramarine Rhino doors.

I was very happy with them, and as my other half said had fun ‘pimping up’ the Rhino.

This then lead me down a narrow street that had only one exit and that was to take the plunge, risk the horror stories and purchase my first finecast figure.  I had read in a few different places that the quality over time has actually got better so thought ok let’s give it a go.

The outcome, one Space a marine Captain master of the Marches purchased.

I must say looking over the model I am very happy with the quality and there seems to be no errors.  I now plan on maybe extending my finecast collection to the other specialist captains as well.

now to build him, but that’s for another day as today is a Star Wars day for me.

Fledgling Armies

So I thought I would show some pictures of what I have got to work with at the moment

First is my Space Marines, which will be Ultramarines

SM

This includes the two web exclusives Captains from last year.  I will be using the tactical squad and terminators with one of the captains as my basic beginnings for the initial learning of the basic rules.

Next we have my current Orks.

Ork

I still have a squad of Nobz, Gretchins and another Killa Kan to add to this yet.  As with the Space Marines, I will use one of the Boyz squads an a squad of Nobz for the initial phase of the campaign.

Last but not least at the moment is the Astra Militarum that I picked up on Friday.

AM

I started building the Command Squad this evening and will take some pictures once complete.

That just then leaves the Eldar, which I have still to purchase, but I think for the narrative campaign that I have to begin writing.
